Ten students will get the chance to visit Hollywood as part of their studies at the Bradford Whistling Woods International Film School which had opened in September.

‘Think Film, Think Bradford’ was the message when the creation of the school was announced in July and now 160 students have signed up to study all aspects of film work.

Now Trevor Griffiths, director of the film school, said that the body is going from strength to strength.

Students have already helped with filming in Centenary Square for the DCI Banks television series starring Stephen Tompkinson and now have had an offer from a Hollywood firm.

Two Bradford students – make-up artist Shannon Holdsworth and film production student Suma Hanif, both 18 – are currently in Malta helping with a film production. The storyline is about a woman tracing the family history of her father who was a fighter pilot in the war.

Mr Griffiths, speaking about the new film school, said: “It is going really well. We opened on time and under budget, which is always nice.

“Malta Film Commission contacted us to see if we were interested in developing links with them. Malta has long been a destination for film companies to use, it has a long history of film-making out there with movies such as Gladiator.

“Malta Film Commission asked if we had students that wanted to come and stay with them and film and the students there are absolutely elated but very tired.”

Speaking about the other shoots the students had been involved with, he said: “With DCI Banks, they were working on night shoots and it was freezing.

“Then the amazing opportunity in Hollywood with the company Entertainment Strategies, run by John J Lee Junior, to invite the students out there to introduce them to directors and show them how the system works.

“We are looking at how we can facilitate the Hollywood trip after Christmas. John J Lee wrote the Producer’s Business Handbook, which is one of the most respected books that comes out of Hollywood.
