The Telegraph & Argus has received new evidence that someone entered the former Odeon cinema "unlawfully" to take pictures supporting the case against demolition.

Campaigners have released more pictures taken inside the boarded-up cinema which they claim prove that previous pictures were an up-to-date record of the building's condition.

Bradford Odeon Rescue Group (BORG) is determined to show that the inside of the city centre building is in "good condition" and should not be demolished to make way for the proposed £55 million New Victoria Place mixed-use development.

Despite being denied access to the Odeon amid health and safety fears, the campaign group says it managed to obtain new pictures taken inside the building, printed in the T&A last week.

Some doubt remained as to whether the pictures had been taken recently - until the group released another image this week of a man sitting in the Odeon reading a T&A from September 20 this year.

A further photograph, taken from inside the Odeon, shows the Alhambra Theatre with a hoarding advertising the theatre's 2006 Christmas play.

After seeing the evidence, building owners Yorkshire Forward stressed no members of the public had been allowed to enter the building and anyone who did so without permission did so unlawfully.

BORG members say the images refute claims by Bradford Centre Regeneration (BCR) that "nothing exists... except the outer shell."

Businessman John Pennington, of BORG, claimed the pictures had been posted to a group member anonymously and added: "BCR are doing what they have to do to support their case and BORG are doing the same.

"The pictures indicate the building is not in the awful state we have been led to believe it is."

Dave Custance, head of strategic development and property at Yorkshire Forward, said: "Anyone who enters the Odeon without permission of the owners and without proper protection does so unlawfully.

"Following the acquisition of the Odeon site in 2003, Yorkshire Forward commissioned a health and safety report on the advice of insurers. The recommendation was the building posed a danger to health, and should not be made accessible to anyone other than contractors. As owners, Yorks-hire Forward has a duty of care to adhere to these recommendations."
