A unique tapestry charting Bradford’s past, present and future, will be officially unveiled next week.
‘The Threads that Bind Us’ is the result of an intergenerational project involving children from 16 primary schools in the city who worked alongside older people’s groups and artists Morwenna Catt and Lucas Stephens to produce the embroidered and appliqued story scroll to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
It will be officially unveiled in the Lord Mayor’s office at City Hall at 10am on Wednesday.
A commemorative booklet produced in-house explains the history of the artwork which features Bradford landmarks such as the National Media Museum and the Alhambra Theatre and famous names associated with the city such as Bradford-born artist David Hockey.
The project was sponsored by Curtis Wool Direct Limited; the British Wool Marketing Board; the Worshipful Company of Woolmen; the Freemasons; James Hare Silks and Woolmark and supported by many other organisations including Bradford Industrial Museum and the Midland Hotel.
Councillor Dale Smith, who was Lord Mayor in 2012/13, also supported the tapestry through his Sprinkle Sunshine Appeal.
