Working with youth and Islamic groups is essential to bring down the number of road casualties in Keighley, councillors have been told.

At its latest meeting, Bradford Council’s Keighley Area Committee was given an annual report on road safety in the area, hearing there had been an overall decrease in casualties.

They were also told that road safety teams were working with children’s centres, mosques and madrassas to spread road safety messages.

Other ways of getting the message across included a child safety week at East Riddlesden Hall, cycling training sessions and pedestrian safety tips.

Last year the number of accidents in Keighley and its surrounding towns fell from 217 to 189, with the number of casualties falling from 313 to 281.
