A Bradford councillor has hit out at a campaign to persuade fast food restaurants to offer smaller portions and low fat options.

Coun Simon Cooke, deputy leader of the Conservative group on Bradford Council, said the dangers associated with being overweight have been grossly exaggerated and that the real problem is not excess weight but lack of fitness.

He added that saturated fats were important nutrients and pointed to research showing that people should reduce carbohydrate consumption and exercise more.
