A mother escaped a bedroom blaze at her home when a smoke alarm sounded.
Fire investigation officers are trying to determine the cause of the fire at the house in Wheatlands Avenue, Heaton, at 8.35pm on Saturday.
Watch commander Paul Austin said the damage was not extensive and minimal as they managed to get to the incident quickly.
Firefighters knocked on neighbouring doors to make residents aware of the incident and to raise awareness of fire risk issues.
