An army regiment had to cancel parades through the centre of Bradford and Skipton because they could not find a band to play.

The Freedom Parades had been planned for yesterday and would have seen the 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment exercising the freedom of the district by marching through the Skipton in the morning and Bradford in the afternoon.

But earlier this week the Army said the regiment would be marching through Rotherham and Sheffield on Wednesday, Barnsley and Wakefield on Thursday and Huddersfield and Halifax today, with no mention of Bradford or Skipton.

Tim Zillissen, spokesman for the armed forces, said: “My understanding is they couldn’t get a band, and as they would need a band to parade they had to cancel.”

He said military bands were allocated from London, and there was no indication of whether the parade would be re-arranged.
