A veteran Keighley garage owner is hanging up his spanners after more than 40 years in the motor trade.

Shann Park resident Peter Hastings is retiring and will be closing his Riverside Garage, in Goulbourne Street.

“I’ve run my business single-handed and I’ve loved my job,” he said. “I’m so thankful to my wonderful, loyal customers and friends who I will miss dearly.”

Mr Hastings opened his first garage close to the Keighley Greyhound Stadium next to the River Worth in the 1970s. He later moved to larger premises in Aireworth Mills, Stockbridge. When that property became too small for his firm he moved to Goulbourne Street and developed a garage and MOT testing station. He has been at this base for the last 26 years.

He said he had seen many mostly positive changes in his industry over the years. “I certainly feel that here in Britain we’ve got one of the finest MOT tests in the world, with safety being paramount,” he said.

He added that he would be closing his business on Wednesday, July 31, but said he could still be contacted after this date on 07553 906506.
