A Bradford man whose co-accused was jailed for four years for attempted burglary has been spared an immediate jail sentence for the offence.

Judge David Hatton QC told Damian Kennedy: “You have taken giant leaps to turn your life around, with very considerable success.”

Kennedy, 41, now living in a rehabilitation hostel in Sheffield, and Robert Dooley, 54, of Mandeville Crescent, Buttershaw, Bradford, attempted to burgle a house in Sowerby Bridge on December 13 last year.

Dooley, a third strike housebreaker, was sentenced to four years imprisonment last month at Bradford Crown Court after he was convicted of the offence by a jury. He was also sentenced for an allegation of dangerous driving.

Kennedy, who pleaded guilty to the burglary offence, was yesterday (FRI) sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 12 months supervision.

He must stay at the hostel for three months and then he plans to return to Bradford to continue his rehabilitation, the court was told.
