God’s own county will be celebrated in a Yorkshire-themed event.

The Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Ken Smith, will officially open the Yorkshire Day celebrations which run from 11am until 4pm at Oakwell Hall museum and country park in Nutter Lane, Birstall, on Sunday, July 28.

Activities focus on food, folk and traditions connected with the county – the biggest in the UK.

Attractions include Panther motorbikes, created in Cleckheaton, Longsword dancers, a Yorkshire market, food court, Shepley Band, archery, Leeds Waits – the official town musicians – a Yorkshire quiz and family activities in the barn.

Admission is £2 for adults and free for children. Entry wristbands and tickets can be bought on the day or in the week before the event from the shop or Countryside Centre at Oakwell Hall Country Park.
