A Wharfedale MP has hailed a rise in the pupil premium that should see schools in his constituency receive an extra £415,200.
The increase, announced by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg this week will see primary schools getting £1,300 per eligible pupil next year – up from £900 – to help those from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve more.
Otley-based MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) said: “All the evidence shows that if your child starts behind in secondary school, they stay behind. That is unacceptable.
"This boost in the pupil premium will help ensure we give those children a better start at secondary school, so they have a better start in life.”
