Bradford's Marie Curie Hospice is appealing for businesses and organisations to support them by taking a collecting can.

The Ginger Goose in the city centre has had a collecting can on its bar since 2011 and has raised just under £600.

Its manager Shirley Evans said: “The customers here are great, the prices of most of the drinks and food end in a nine pence so rather than fill up their pockets with change their pennies usually go in the collecting can on the bar.

"I’m really pleased that we’ve managed to raise so much money already for such a brilliant local cause.

"It’s such a simple way to raise money for the Hospice and it doesn’t take any great effort, we’re happy to do what we can to help. “

Helen Rowlands, community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “Last year our collecting cans raised more than £15,000 and we’d really like to get them in more premises across Bradford.

"If we can increase the number of sites for our collecting cans it’ll make a big difference to the overall amount raised each year to help our Marie Curie Nurses to provide more care to terminally ill patients, and vital emotional support to their families, at the time when they need it most.”

Organisations interested in taking a collecting can, or that have one in need of replacement, should contact the Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraising office on (01274) 337034.
