Environment Agency bailiffs are urging people to fish within the law after a recent blitz across Yorkshire found 23 anglers were fishing illegally.
Last month bailiffs, who visited 35 sites across Yorkshire, hooked 367 anglers and landed 23 for offences – the main being fishing without a licence.
Peter Mischenko, fisheries technical officer for the Environment Agency said: “We are out in all weathers checking rod licences and we work with angling clubs and the police to protect our fisheries, so there is no hiding place for people who cheat honest anglers.”
Money the Environment Agency receives from rod licence sales is spent improving and protecting fisheries.
Anglers must have a rod licence before fishing and must be able to produce it when requested.
