Teenagers in Bradford who have not received the MMR vaccine are being targeted in a catch-up campaign.
About 6,000 children across West Yorkshire aged between ten and 16 either missed out on or only had one dose of the vaccination which offers protection against measles, mumps and rubella.
There were six reported cases of measles in the Bradford area from January until May and the campaign aims to reduce that number in future years. There were 1,168 reported cases across England in the same period.
Dr Shirley Brierley, consultant in public health for Bradford Council, said: “All children need two doses of MMR to be fully protected against measles. We are continuing to see a small number of cases of measles in Bradford and we want to ensure this number reduces over time.
“We encourage all parents to talk to their GP or school nurse if they think their child is not fully protected.”
