Building services group NG Bailey has pledged to eliminate waste sent to landfill sites as part of an ambitious five-year strategy to make the business greener.

The Ilkley-based group, with manufacturing operations in Bradford, says its new One Approach strategy will build on the environmental targets achieved by the previous Target 2012 programme and will impact on every area of the business by putting sustainability at its heart.

One Approach covers six areas – safety, the environment, people, customers, the supply chain and the communities in which the company works – with each one having three major commitments that the business has pledged to achieve by 2018.

In addition to eliminating landfill waste, NG Bailey is looking to implement a ‘community impact plan’ for every project it works on; deliver career advice, pre-apprenticeship tasters or an apprenticeship to 5,000 young people, two for every person it employs; save its clients more CO2 than it emits and cut CO2 emissions by a fifth per employee.

Cal Bailey, sustainability director, said: “Target 2012 has embedded sustainability within the business and ensured we are highly regarded for our work in the area.

“One Approach continues this momentum, extending the boundaries of Target 2012 and focusing on more than just environmental sustainability. The scale and range of commitments, wedded to the timescale in which they must be achieved, makes this a challenging programme for us, yet one which signals our determination to be a leader of change.”

NG Bailey says safety remains a priority and has pledged to pursue ‘zero accidents’, develop a leading health and wellbeing programme and be the best for health and safety in its sector.
