West Yorkshire transport chiefs have been handed a £16.8m annual funding pot.
And they have been promised a slice of a further £600m yearly fund, if they can show they have exciting ideas that can deliver economic growth.
However, local transport bodies (LTBs) will only gain the extra money – part of the Lord Heseltine-inspired ‘growth fund’ – if they are spending money wisely.
West Yorkshire LTB was promised a total of £101m over the six years between 2015-16 and 2020-21, by the Department for Transport.
The LTB is part of the local enterprise partnerships (LEP), made up of local authority and business leaders.
The Leeds City Region LEP was unable to give any examples of transport schemes it hoped to fund from the DFT allocation.
A spokesman said: “We will respond to the call for priorities to DfT by the set deadline.”
