A Bradford school has hit back after accusations it brought in a third dress code change within the past two years for its sports day which took place yesterday.
Concerned parent, Helen Holmes, Tweeted the Telegraph & Argus after talking to her daughter when she returned from Immanuel College in Thackley.
She said: “Following the ban on skirts two years ago, followed by a ban on a popular trouser a year ago, my daughter came home from school and announced that while the boys are allowed to go to school in T-shirt and shorts for sports day, the girls have to wear shorts covered by tracksuit bottoms which can only be removed for each event and then replaced straight after.
“This was without a valid explanation.
“As a parent I fully supported the skirt ban but found the trouser ban and now this with the shorts a step too far.
“It’s left me to wonder if there is a reason within the school that this has been taken.
“I have spoken to other parents who are sharing my same thoughts and are angry with the school for this latest move.”
But the Church of England Secondary Science College, whose head teacher is Jane Tiller, has denied the claims.
Cate Blake, the school’s communications officer, said: “Parents of students at Immanuel College are made aware of our uniform statement which asks that their children wear appropriate clothing to school.
“For sports day we asked that students wear appropriate clothing so that they would be able to get changed quickly and have an enjoyable day.”
The school denied the pupils had to wear tracksuit bottoms over shorts when they were not involved in sports.
