Plans are powering ahead for this year’s Bradford Science Festival.

Although the four-day event is not until October, organisers are fuelled up with excitement and ideas and want the city to start getting involved now.

For adults there will be a science tent exploring bizarre Heston Blumenthal-type foods.

Also, contributions are needed now from people with tattoos and piercings who would like to provide photos of their body modifications along with their stories for inclusion in an exhibition that will go on show during the festival in one of the city’s pop-up shops.

Events will span the whole of Bradford city centre at different venues bringing in audiences of schoolchildren, families and community groups.

Helen Barraclough, who leads the Space Connections team organising the festival, insisted no-one will miss out on fun when the festival starts on October 16.

There are more than 2,500 children’s places already booked up on the schools programme and more organisations are coming on board to make it “Bradford’s best festival” this year, she said.

The mirror pool will be transformed into a science hub on the Saturday of the festival weekend with local organsiations and businesses getting involved.

“It won’t be just a market with stalls where you can buy things and see performances, it will be where you can learn and pick up information,” said Miss Barraclough

. “Metro wants to be there with how its smart cards work and British Gas is another big company interested in the day.

“William the gnome who lives at Forster’s Bistro is going to be doing his bit playing the Where's William game – he will be going on his travels for people to spot him at various architectural jewels across the city. And the Airedale Fab Lab will be making giant sand beasts moving through the mirror pool.”
