Television presenter and Bradford resident Christa Ackroyd, who was reportedly earning more than £200,000 a year, will not be returning to her role with the BBC, it was announced yesterday.
The newsreader (pictured), who had worked for Look North for 12 years, has not been seen on screen for more than three months.
The BBC said she would no longer be employed in her presenting role and the corporation wished her all the best for the future.
Ms Ackroyd, who also runs a bed and breakfast business called Brook House in Ogden, Halifax, with her husband Chris Sutcliffe, made headlines earlier in the year when questions were asked about her absence from the show as well as her salary.
Shipley MP Philip Davies, a member of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport select committee, was reported as saying the public had a right to know why the presenter was not doing the job she was paid to do.
Ms Ackroyd put in a appearance last month at Bradford’s Curry Festival, hosting a live cookery demonstration.
She refused to comment on why she was no longer working for the BBC when she spoke to the Telegraph & Argus last night, saying: “I look forward to continuing my career as a Yorkshire journalist.”
