Police investigating an alleged shooting have cordoned of an area of grass in front of a first floor flat in Barkerend.
Two officers are guarding the patch of land and way into the flat in Brookfield Road while another plainclothed officer was carrying out door-to-door inquiries.
Neighbours claimed to have heard loud bangs and names being shouted at about 11.30pm last night.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "It was only this morning when we came out that we saw black shot marks around the window frame and realised what the bangs had been.
"Someone's been shooting up at the window. They were calling out a name but it's not the family who are living in there now. Whoever it was got the wrong place."
The cordon went up at about 2pm, according to residents.
