An award-winning Bradford photographer has died in hospital aged 64 following a short illness.

Tony Fickes’s press work was covering sports fixtures and events, particularly cricket, cycling and running. But over a decade ago he also began photographing news events.

In 2007, Mr Fickes (pictured), of Allerton, started a gardening business after about 40 years working in the printing trade, but photography remained his main passion. Several of his photographs were published in books and his work was seen in the weather slots on BBC and ITV. Jackie, his wife of 43 years, said: “He was passionate about his photography and he loved meeting people. He could speak to anyone, right across the spectrum.” Mr Fickes’s funeral takes place at St Mary & St Walburga’s RC Church, Kirkgate, Shipley, on Friday at 10.30am.
