Creatures who ruled the earth millions of years ago seemed to have come back to life at a primary school.

Youngsters at Oldfield Primary, near Keighley, turned up to school to find a nest containing what appeared to be dinosaur eggs.

They also found a pile of ‘dinosaur droppings’ in a classroom, disturbed chairs and desks as if some huge animal had been running loose.

It was the work of teaching staff, who used some creative modelling to stimulate pupils’ interest in the subject of dinosaurs for this term’s school topic.

Trainee teacher Marie Clegg said they even arranged for a Police Community Support Officer to visit the school to investigate the situation.

“Quite a few of the children were genuinely surprised,” she said. “We had a palaeontology dig so the children could find items we had left for them.”
