Winner: BorgWarner Turbo Systems
Engines across the world are being powered by technology designed and created right here in the district.
Now turbo charger manufacturer BorgWarner is moving up a gear and creating new jobs after landing a huge new contract.
The firm, part of American-owned BorgWarner Incorpora-ted, designs and produces turbo charger systems for both car and commercial diesel engines.
It has been manufacturing in the Bradford area for more than 30 years and currently employs about 420 people locally.
The plant now has the capacity to produce about 500,000 turbo chargers, and clients include Daimler and Leyland DAF trucks.
The firm recently developed a new production line to supply JCB with hi-tech, electronically-controlled turbo chargers for its latest diesel engine.
And its future looks bright, as BorgWarner has won a contract to produce turbo chargers for the new Jaguar Land Rover four-cylinder engine range.
This means the company is looking to take on more staff to work on the contract.
Simon Malins, business development manager, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
Afterwards, he said: “It’s a great award for the factory, for the employees. They’ve put in a lot of hard work over the last few years.”
Simon acknowledged that the recession had been hard on the motor industry.
He said: “We have been through some difficult times during the recession, but with the new business that is coming in, we are going to increase the workforce significantly.”
He said hopefully the creation of jobs would be not just a boost to the firm but also to the wider community.
Highly commended: Univer and PEC
