A Bradford drug dealer has been sentenced to four years in prison and faces losing his house and two cars.

James Edwards, 40, of Thornton, Bradford, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court.

Edwards was ordered to pay back £124,000 of his earnings as a drug dealer.

The money will come from his £90,000 house, £16,000 Porsche Boxster, £6,000 Toyota Landcruiser, £1,000 private number plate and £8,000 of uncut diamonds.

The rest of the funds will come from Edwards' bank account.

If he does not repay the money in the next six months he will face a further three years in prison and the debt will still be waiting for him on his release.

The confiscation order was granted under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

Edwards was originally arrested in the Thornton area of Bradford at 9.30pm on February 21 this year after being stopped by officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Group.

At the time he was driving his Porsche from which officers recovered five kilos of cocaine with a street value of about £250,000.

He was charged and remanded in custody in February and pleaded guilty at court on November 22.

A spokesman from the Drugs and Organised Crime Group said: "This is a brilliant result for the team. It sends out a strong message to drug dealers that not only do they face a prison sentence but we will also empty their pockets and take away all the luxuries their drug money has bought.

"In some cases the confiscation order impacts far more than the punishment they are given when they are convicted of drugs offences.

"Edwards will not be able to enjoy the luxury of fast cars and a comfortable lifestyle now he is behind bars.

"The majority of law-abiding people work hard for the money they earn and deserve the benefits of their earnings. Drug dealers think they are above the law and bring nothing but misery into the communities in which they operate.

"Edwards was in possession of a significant amount of drugs with a substantial street value. This conviction is another good example of the work we are doing to interrupt the supply of drugs on to the streets of West Yorkshire."
