Learning is a hoot for children at a Silsden school.

Six different types of owl were brought to Aire View Infant School by Oxenhope-based company SMJ Falconry & Crafts.

The feathered visitors included a huge, talkative Eagle Owl, and the pupils were allowed to briefly hold one of the smaller birds. The SMJ staff told the children interesting facts about owls, explaining why different species have different coloured eyes.

About 150 key stage one pupils enjoyed the visit last Wednesday. Some of them used iPods to film the event in the school hall.

Assistant head teacher Tim Whitehead said: β€œIt’s been absolutely fantastic - the children have really gained a lot from this.”
