A public consultation starts next week for views on plans to regenerate Bradford city centre and the Shipley and Canal Road corridor.

Residents and key businesses will be able to have their say on issues such as housing, jobs, schools, shopping, roads, public transport and open spaces.

People will also be able to comment on detailed development proposals for buildings and sites.

On view at drop-in sessions will be the documents that will help shape the blueprint for development over the next 15 to 20 years.

The Bradford City Centre Area Action Plan and the Shipley and Canal Road Area Action Plan form part of the Local Plan – a new development proposal for the district.

The Local Plan, formerly known as the local development framework, replaces the existing Replacement Unitary Development Plan.

The area action plans are based on work the Council and its partners have already done in support of the regeneration of the city centre and the Shipley and Canal Road Corridor.

Anyone interested but who cannot make any of the organised sessions can still see them online at bradford.gov.uk/ldf or at the main libraries in Shipley, Bingley and Ilkley, the Keighley One Stop Shop and the planning office at Jacob’s Well in Bradford, until Friday, May 31.

Councillor Val Slater, Bradford Council’s executive member for housing, planning and transport, said: “It is crucial that landowners, businesses, retailers, residents and community groups get involved and help shape future developments.”

The Council’s planning and transport strategy manager, Andrew Marshall, said: “There is a real purpose to this – to deliver the long-term changes in the city centre and Shipley and Canal Road Corridor to meet our future housing and employment needs and build on what’s already been done."”

The drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesday, April 16, from 12.30pm to 7pm at City Park Pavilion, Bradford; Wednesday, April 17, from 12.30pm to 7pm at Ilkley Library; Thursday, April 18, from 10am to 5pm at Keighley Market Hall; Saturday, April 20, from 9am to 4pm at Oastler Shopping Centre, Bradford; Monday, April 22, from 12.30pm to 7pm at Shipley Library; Saturday, April 27, from 10am to 4pm at Shipley Library.
