Gareth Gates was joined by youngsters from his Bradford performing arts academy when he performed in his home city last night.

Children from the Gates&Wilkes Academy, which the Bradford singer runs with musical theatre star Jonathan Wilkes, took to the stage during Boogie Nights, a concert version of the Seventies-themed musical starring Gareth, the Osmonds and singers Andy Abraham and Chico.

The academy, based at Dixons City Academy, offers classes in singing, dancing and acting.

“Being on the St George’s Hall stage is a great opportunity for them, it’s something they’ll always remember,” said Gareth. “I set up the academy to give kids a chance to learn new skills, build confidence and get some experience of performing.”

Gareth also plans to include youngsters from the academy in his acoustic concert at Bingley Arts Centre in May.

“I’m doing a few smaller venues, showcasing some new songs,” he said. “I love musical theatre, but I want to continue as a recording artist too.”
