Repairs to a single pothole will kick-start a new campaign for a badly-damaged road in Silsden to be adopted.

Ward Councillor Andrew Mallinson has secured a £1,000 grant from Bradford Council to repair the largest hole in Spencer Avenue.

He has gathered 90 signatures on a petition calling for action to bring the rest of the road up to adoptable standard.

He also wants the Council to investigate how much the road would cost to repair including the potential cost to each resident.

For many years, residents and local councillors have called for Bradford to fund repair work on Spencer Avenue, and neighbouring Hillcrest Avenue.

Both are unadopted – meaning residents are responsible for their upkeep – and potholes run down the length of the roads and pavements.

The Council will not adopt the roads until they are brought up to a suitable standard, and says residents would have to share the cost of such work.

It has pointed out that there are more than 1,500 unadopted roads across Bradford district which would cost about £50 million to adopt.
