Howard Goodall, presenter of the BBC2 series The Story of Music and Classic FM’s composer-in-residence, has a piece of his own music featuring in Bradford Festival Choral Society’s forthcoming concert.

Eternal Light is a modern requiem. He wrote it with the intention of providing solace to the grieving by reflecting on the words of the Latin Mass by juxtaposing them with poems in English, acknowledging the loss and emptiness which accompanies the death of a loved one.

Also on the programme is Seven Sea Songs by Tony Hewitt Jones, a work which has never been recorded. It includes settings of poems by Shakespeare, Browning and John Masefield and others. The music and the words are by turns wild, romantic, adventurous, furious and mysterious.

Bradford Festival Choral Society will be accompanied by the Skipton Building Society Camerata.

The concert is on March 23, at Bradford Grammar School’s Price Theatre, starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available on the door, or in advance from bradfordfestivalchoralsociety.org.uk Under 18s are free.
