A volunteer from Bradford is marking International Women’s Day by telling schoolchildren about the changing role of women in South Africa.
Emma Varney, 19, will draw on her own experiences volunteering in the country with Project Trust, an educational youth volunteering charity, when she hosts an assembly at Haybridge High School in Worcester.
It is part of Project Trust’s Global Citizenship programme, which enables volunteers to speak about their experiences overseas and help develop global awareness among young people.
Miss Varney said: “I’ll be talking about the traditional role of women in South Africa, including their role in tribal culture.
“Then I’ll discuss how that has changed and there’s an increasing percentage of women in politics and more prominent female sports stars.”
