The Lord Mayor of Bradford joined a team of young volunteers in a litter pick.
The Yorkshire branch of the Sant Nirankari Mission on Napier Street, off Leeds Road, was joined by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Dale Smith, on Saturday.
Coun Smith planted a tree in the mission’s garden and donated £500 from his appeal for more plants and trees.
He then officially started the clear-up by collecting rubbish from outside the centre.
A team of mission volunteers went on to clean the surrounding area, filling more than 40 refuse bags which were collected by Bradford Council.
Coun Smith said: “It is very pleasing to see youngsters take such positive steps to improve their neighbourhood.”
