A grandad who is raising money for a charity that helped save his grandson’s life is asking people to wear yellow tomorrow.

The community worker, who changed his name by deed poll to Muppett, is organising a music night at The Castle Hotel in Grattan Road, Bradford, in aid of the Children’s Liver Foundation’s Big Yellow Friday event.

Landlord Paul Chand is putting on some guest blonde beers in keeping with the yellow theme and there will be a collection bucket on the bar – as well as folk entertainment and food.

Brighouse bard Roger Davies will be performing his new song Stephanie on the night and Muppett, who works for CNet, hopes to see plenty of new faces at the regular Friday night music slot.

The 53-year-old, of Thorpe Edge, said: “We’re looking forward to a cracking night. Hopefully people will turn up in something yellow and make a donation to the charity. There’s all sorts of events happening all over the country but I wanted to do something here in Bradford. When it fell on a Friday I thought it tied in nicely with the Castle's Friday music nights.”

Muppet has already raised almost £3,000 split between the charity and Leeds General Infirmary where his grandson Amos Harker, who lives with his parents in Ilkley, is treated.

Last year Muppett hiked 200 miles walking the Dales Way in reverse, from Bowness back along the Dales Way to Ilkley then along the Ebor Way to Whitby. The year before he walked 165 miles of The Dales Way. This year his challenge is to walk the perimeter of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

When Amos was born, doctors discovered he had Biliary Atresia, a rare condition in new-born babies where the common bile duct between the liver and small intestine becomes blocked. At the age of nine weeks he underwent a seven-hour life-saving operation.

Despite still needing regular but less-frequent check-ups now, there is a possibility the two-year-old might need a liver transplant in the future – but for the time being he is doing very well, said his grandfather.

Anyone wanting to support Big Yellow Friday in Bradford or Muppett’s walk later this year can either contact him at muppett@cnet.org.uk or call in and see him at The Castle tomorrow night.
