More than 100 visually impaired children from across the region, including some from Bradford, enjoyed a theatre trip with a difference.

The group, who are either visually impaired or blind, went to West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds to watch a production of The Wind in the Willows with audio description through headphones.

The youngsters also met the actors and felt the costumes and props and were given a special gift each, designed for their needs, ranging from talking alarm clocks, ‘smelly’ pens, recordable message toys and audible footballs.

Carly Mason, of the RNIB, which ran the trip with the support of business LTT Vending Ltd/NIVO Ltd, which provided the headphones, toys and goody bags, said: “A wonderful time was had by all, especially those children who don't usually get to have such an immersive theatre experience.

“We are very grateful for all the support we received which allowed the event to take place.”

Michael Levi, chairman of LTT Vending, who is visually impaired, said: “We were only too pleased to be associated with the RNIB in such a worthwhile cause.”
