Proposals to have a devolved government in the North of England have sparked a mixed response from Bradford MPs.
The debate started after the central Government was urged to bring forward plans for a regional government in the north.
Philip Davies, the Conservative MP for Shipley, said: “It is a ridiculous idea, and there is no demand for it at all.”
But Gerry Sutcliffe, the Labour MP for Bradford South, said that he would back the idea.
He said: “I’ve always supported it. The powers I would like to see introduced would be the same as in Scotland and Wales.”
David Ward, Liberal Democrat MP for Bradford East, said he did not support the concept.
Kris Hopkins, the Tory MP for Keighley, said: “The last thing my constituents want is another tier of Government, and yet more politicians are trying to interfere in their lives.”
