There was a warm welcome for TV weather presenter Kate Crewdson in Burley-in-Wharfedale on Saturday as she switched on the village’s Christmas lights.
The BBC Look North weather presenter was the special guest at Burley’s annual Christmas market and lights switch-on ceremony.
She praised the “fantastic” turnout of families outside Burley Grange despite the chilly weather, telling the crowd she was delighted to be at the celebration.
“I can’t promise a white Christmas, but I’ll do my best,” she told villagers gathered in the centre of the village ready to count down to the official switch-on.
The lights ceremony, with music from local choirs and Otley Brass Band, was the highlight of an afternoon of festive events.
Part of Main Street was turned into a pedestrian zone, with stalls set up in the road for a Christmas market organised by Burley and District Chamber of Trade.
Children’s roundabouts and sideshows were also set up in Grange Park, and a festive craft fair took place in the nearby Queen’s Hall.
Visitors were also invited to drop into Burley Methodist Church through the afternoon to see a Christmas Tree festival – featuring colourfully decorated trees sponsored by local companies and organisations.
