DNA profiles from cigarette ends and drinks containers linked the defendants to cars alleged to have been involved in the robbery at Universal Express, the court heard today.

Forensic scientists told the PC Sharon Beshenivsky murder trial jury that a number of profiles were obtained from items examined which matched the DNA profiles of Muzzaker Shah, Yusuf Jamma, Faisal Razzaq, Hassan Razzaq and Raza Ul-Haq Aslam, The court heard that the chances of the profiles belonging to anyone else not related to the defendants was a billion to one.

Forensic scientist Valerie Tomlinson said two full profiles matching Shah were found on the zip toggles of a black laptop bag recovered from the travel agents. His profile was also found on a Ribena carton found in the Toyota Rav 4 car.

She said DNA profiles of all the defendants had been obtained through mouth swabs which were compared to items recovered as part of the investigation.

Her colleague Michelle Walton said matching profiles to Shah and the Jamma brothers were obtained from cigarette ends found in the Rav 4.

Yusuf Jamma's DNA was found on the mouth of a bottle of water recovered from the car.

Cigarette ends and cans and bottles of drinks found in the Toyota Corolla were also linked by DNA to Shah, Aslam and Faisal Razzaq.

Other matches were found on clothing recovered from a laundry basket at the house in Harehills Lane, Leeds, which were linked to the Razzaq brothers and Shah.

And Aslam's DNA was found on cigarette ends at the property in Roundhay Place.

Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, of Small Heath, Birmingham, Raza Ul-Haq Aslam, 25, of Kentish Town, London, and brothers Faisal Razzaq, 25, and Hassan Razzaq, 26, both of Forest Gate, London, plead not guilty to PC Sharon Beshenivsky's murder.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 25, of London, admits murder and robbery but denies the attempted murder of PC Teresa Milburn. He has also pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing a prohibited weapon and two charges of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Aslam and the Razzaq brothers deny robbery but Jamma has admitted that charge. Aslam, the Razzaq brothers and Jamma also plead not guilty to firearms offences.

The trial continues.
