The skies were filled with a crescendo of colourful explosions as revellers celebrated Bonfire Night across the district over the weekend.

Bingley's celebrations took place on Saturday when up to 15,000 people attended a fireworks display at Myrtle Park. The annual event, which has been run by Baildon Round Table for the past five years, was expected to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Baildon Round Table secretary Dominic De Luca said: "It was fabulous. The fireworks display lasted more than 35 minutes and it was absolutely magnificent. At the end, the stewards were told by lots of people how much they enjoyed it."

Mr De Luca said a new lay-out at this year's event offered visitors smoother access to the site and improved safety.

Even with the added costs, organisers hope the money raised by this year's event will top the £13,000 raised last year. "It is our chief fundraising event of the year," said Mr De Luca.

Elsewhere in the district major displays were held by Burley Scouts and Guides at Peel Place, Burley-in-Wharfedale, at Baildon Rugby Union Club in Jenny Lane, at Addingham Primary School and at Skipton Auction Mart.

Thrill-seekers were also treated to a breath-taking display of action at the Extreme Stunt Show at the Grattan Stadium, Odsal, Bradford.

Last night's show included stunts by 4x4 monster trucks, motorbikes and BMX riders. It finished with a spectacular fireworks display. The event was the grand finale of a 140-venue UK tour.
