The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Dale Smith, has given a civic send off to two volunteers as they embark on a trek in the Grand Canyon for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Restaurateur Charalene Lee owner of the Dragon Thai in Centenary Square, and friend Joanne Caine are part of a group of 23 people who flew out to Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday to take part in the week-long adventure to raise funds for the cancer charity.
As well as signing up to what they hope will be the experience of a lifetime, each person has had to raise a minimum of £3,100. The group so far has raised £83,649.40.
Last year the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford cared for 600 patients at a cost of £3.3 million.
