It is always a pleasure to walk around Little Germany, admiring the grand, handsome buildings.
On a warm day, the streets offered a cool haven as we went in search of a sandwich bar.
We soon found one in the shape of The Munchen House in Peckover Street, a bustling takeaway that is clearly well liked. There was a small queue, but several staff were busy making a range of snacks from boxed salads to sandwiches and baked potatoes. I chose a tuna mayonnaise jacket potato (£1.90), while my colleague opted for a baked potato with beans (£1.70). Both were served in small, but extremely full cartons and, we both agreed, contained tasty, nicely cooked food. The spacious café did not provide seating, but there are benches immediately outside. The cafe has a varied menu, with a range of hot and cold snacks. Also on sale are hot and cold drinks.
After finishing our meals, I decided to pop back for a flapjack, but by then the queue was snaking out of the door. This reasonably priced takeaway is clearly something of a honeypot at lunchtime.
