BRADFORD'S Freedom Studios will be showcasing the work of young people in a special show.

For more than two years the theatre company has been inspiring the next generation of theatre-makers by working with schools and youth groups.

Back in March its Carlton Bolling group did a mini-tour of Bradford libraries for World Book Day and in June they were joined by young people from Grange Technology College to lead Bradford’s Refugee Week launch. Young people on Canterbury estate wrote and performed their own short film, and taking place in Freedom Studios’ Manor Row space was the company's first performing arts Summer School.

More recently, young people worked with Tim Wheeler, taking over City Hall as part of Revolution Bradford, challenging issues they see and experience each day, such as gender inequality and racism. The youngsters have been using theatre to tell their own stories and call for changes they want to see in the world.

Klaudia Struzik, a young artist working with Freedom Studios, says: “When I first came to England I felt very isolated as nobody in school would want to be my friend apart from other Polish people. I thought it wasn’t right because England was supposed to be multi-cultural. However, in drama club we are mixing with people from different cultures, countries and backgrounds and I think this is amazing. I’ve made so many friends and they are just the best. I am really thankful to Freedom Studios for coming to our school and helping me to develop as a person and as a performer.”

Freedom Studios promotes the work of new theatre artists, particularly BAMER artists and performers, in Bradford.

On Sunday, December 10 it invites audiences to celebrate the young people's work. Around 20 young people will perform a selection of theatre pieces they have created, supported by facilitators Natalie Davies and Anna Parker, as well as showing short films.

* The event, at Kala Sangam, Forster Square, Bradford, and includes a light buffet and runs from 4.30pm to 6pm.
