AN acclaimed Zimbabwean musician will be playing in Bradford city centre on Wednesday.
Stella Chiweshe, the award-winning Queen of Mbira music, will perform at the Delius Arts Centre in a concert supported by the University of Bradford and Arts Council England.
The mbira is an instrument made of 22 to 28 metal keys mounted on a hardwood soundboard. Chiweshe has been performing concerts using the instruments since the 70s, and was the first female artist to gain recognition in the male dominated field.
In Zimbabwe she released more than 20 singles of Mbira music and has won several awards.
She will be supported by Newcastle musician M.R.M and Leeds/Bradford basked Afro rock musicians Kontiki.
The concert takes place in the centre, on Great Horton Rd, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 / £7 concessions plus pay as you feel is also available.
