BRADFORD singer Vanessa Maria will be showcasing her debut EP, Overslept, at a series of gigs this spring.

Nessa, as she is known to friends, is currently studying songwriting at BIMM in Manchester.

After a stint as a busker, the 22-year-old went on to perform on the festival circuit at events such as Bradford Festival, Saltaire Festival and Bingley Music Live, where she opened The Discovery Stage.

“From partying with Ghostface Killah and having my guitar signed by Lulu to playing charity gigs in back gardens and helping to run a music summer school for teenagers, I love what I do,” says Nessa. ?

Overslept is a trip-hop ‘mini-version’ of what was formerly known as the concept album. It takes the listener from the small hours to the late morning, expressing the complex feelings of a young person struggling to differentiate daydreaming from real dreams and nightmares.

The album was co-produced by Bradford singer and musician Oliver Pinder, a friend and mentor to Nessa since she started out on her music career.

Nessa and her band will launch Overslept over the Easter weekend, with gigs at The 1875 in Bradford on Saturday, April 15, Oporto in Leeds on Monday, April 17 and Gullivers in Manchester the following day.
