Violinist Midori Komachi, is bringing Bradford-born composer Frederick Delius home, with a family-friendly concert and debut album.
Midori will perform at Bradford’s Delius Arts and Culture Centre on Saturday, April 5, as part of a tour showcasing her debut album Colours Of The Heart.
The album, which contains sonatas by Delius, Debussy and Ravel, was inspired by her project Delius And Gauguin; A Conversation, a programme of music expressing the exchanges between composers and artists.
The context of the album is based on exchanges between the composer Frederick Delius and painter Paul Gauguin, who met in Paris in 1894. Around them, a circle of artists expanded – composers, painters and writers.
Born in Bradford to German parents, Delius became one of the most cosmopolitan of British composers; living and working in Florida, Germany, Norway and France, and drawing inspiration from his surroundings to colour his distinctive music.
The works at the heart of the connection between these artists are Delius’s third Sonata and Gauguin’s painting Nevermore, which Delius purchased from the artist in 1898. The picture was displayed in the composer’s music room and became his most treasured possession.
