I REMEMBER when the film Priscilla Queen of the Desert hit our screens and what a breath of fun and fresh air it proved to be.

Transferring a film to stage musical can be a somewhat risky endeavour, however with Priscilla it has worked wonderfully. This is the second time I have seen the musical and can easily say that I am hooked.

This touring version sees Jason Donovan, who previously starred in the West End, embracing his debut role as producer, and I think that he has made a really fantastic job of it even making a ‘brief’ cameo as part of a Scott and Charlene facemask in a rather funny section featuring a Kylie medley.

Joe McFadden was a surprise as the lead, Tick, proving to have a wonderful singing voice: he offered the standout moments of the show with two of his songs: I Say a Little Prayer and his duet with his son Adam – Always on my Mind.

The boy playing Adam was only on stage for a short amount of time but made a real impact in that time.

As Tick and his fellow drag queens travel across the desert of Australia in order for Tick to meet his son they are joined by a fantastic cast.

I found that the trio of girls who sang while the drag queens mimed to them had particularly powerful and captivating voices.

The set was simple, with everything slotting together effectively, and everything made for a wonderful show.
