THE winner of our Mik’s Xmas Pix competition is Roy Mayos, of Leyburn Road, Darlington. He was one of surprisingly few who managed to correctly identify all 11 of the Darlington town centre buildings, as photographed by Mik Skinner.
Mik, a bike mechanic at Wheelbase in Bondgate, Darlington, loves photographing the town’s architecture from unusual angles. A century ago, Darlington was nicknamed “the Athens of the North” because of all of its overblown Gothic-style Victorian buildings, but after seeing Mik’s collection, we must now say that it has an arresting range of modern architecture as well.
Many thanks to everyone who entered, and to Mik for allowing us to use his pictures. Roy’s prize of £50 Love to Shop vouchers are in the post.
