LETTER: Bus lanes are a licence to print money

SIR - I wasn't surprised to see that the old bus lane chestnut has raised its head again. It is about time something was done about this exploitation of law abiding drivers. Does the council really think that over 500 drivers everyday deliberately use bus lanes in full knowledge that they will be fined?

No progress re street lighting

SIR - It is now over three months since I reported some street lighting problems in the Redburn Road/Redburn Avenue area. There are now three columns not illuminating; one does not even have a light fixing.

We don't have to support Trump

SIR - Donald Trump was pleased when the UK voted 'out' in the EU referendum, as a businessman he saw Europe as a strong contender to US business interests, claiming that the US and the UK had a special relationship, though its always been on the American President's terms.

European court will not intervene in a trades dispute

SIR - Further to Brian Holmans' letter, (T&A letters, May 16) I don't doubt that the European Court of Justice would play some part in the event of any trade disputes between the UK and EU, but it would not have direct jurisdiction on matters relating to our domestic law or be able to hear appeals submitted to it by British subjects.

This this political comeback a reason to rejoice?

SIR - The local Labour party may be pleased that former Council leader Ian Greenwood has returned to Bradford council having won the Bolton and Undercliffe seat in the recent local elections (T&A, May 5).

Austerity directed at most vulnerable

SIR - A new survey, Voices from the Social Care Crisis, by the Care and Support Alliance (CSA) reveals large numbers of men and women needing care are being left unfed and living in fear, amounting to a broad picture of neglect across the UK. The report, focussing on those who need care or carers themselves, shows the "damning reality of a care system that is visibly falling apart and unfit for purpose."
