ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 59 TO JUNCTION 64) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 59 TO JUNCTION 64) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in Darlington, to enable vehicle restraint system renewal works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Monday 8 November 2021 for 20 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, at times during the works, between 8pm and 6am, to close the A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 59 to the entry slip road at Junction 63, a distance of 35400 metres;

(ii) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 63 to the entry slip road at Junction 59, a distance of 35400 metres;

(iii) northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 59;

(iv) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 60, Junction 61 and Junction 62; and

(v) northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 63.

During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It will be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to impose a temporary 60mph and 50mph speed restriction on the A1 (M):
(vi) northbound carriageway from 2400 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 59 (Aycliffe) to the entry slip road at Junction

63 (Blind Lane), a distance of 37800 metres;

(vii) southbound carriageway from 800 metres north of the entry slip road at Junction

64 (Washington) to the entry slip road at Junction 59, a distance of 37800 metres;

(viii) northbound exit and entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 59;

(ix) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 60 (Bradbury), Junction 61 and Junction 62 (Carrville);

(x) northbound exit and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 63 (Blind Lane); and

(xi) southbound entry slip road at Junction 64. It will also be necessary for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6'6" in specified lanes of theA1(M):

(xii) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 59 to 3000 metres north of the entry slip road at Junction 61 (Bowburn), a distance of 21600 metres; and

(xiii) southbound carriageway from 3000 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 61

to the entry slip road at Junction 59, a
distance of 21600 metres. It will also be necessary for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, during lane closures that the hardshoulder will be used for traffic adjacent to the above lengths of carriageway as described in (xii) and (xiii). Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency services vehicles, traffic officer vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance purposes).
