ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (STOCKTON ROAD JUNCTION TO ELTON INTERCHANGE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways
England Company Limited intends to make
an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in County
Durham, to enable road barrier installation
works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Tuesday
14 April 2020 for 15 days, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours
a day, at times during the works, to impose a
temporary, 50mph on the A66:
(i) eastbound carriageway from 85 metres west of Stockton Road Junction to 140 metres east of Elton overbridge;
(ii) westbound carriageway from 1725 metres east of Elton Interchange overbridge to 440 metres east of Long Newton Interchange overbridge, a distance of 5250 metres; and
(iii) westbound entry slip road at Elton Interchange.
It will also be necessary to close, for the duration of the works, the layby situated adjacent to the A66:
(i) eastbound carriageway approximately 1330 metres east of Stockton Road Junction;
(ii) eastbound carriageway approximately 300 metres east of Sandy Leas Lane;
(iii) westbound carriageway approximately 1340 metres west of Yarm Lane Interchange; and
(iv) westbound carriageway approximately 2375 metres west of Elton Interchange.
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles, vehicles being used in connection with the said works or winter maintenance purposes). The Order comes into force on 13 April 2020 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
