Published on 02/04/2020

BORKOWSKI Janina (nee Wysocka) 1926 2020 Janina Borkowski passed into the arms of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, at the Georgetown Hospital on March 20. Predeceased by her parents, Wojciech and Franciszka, and her loving husband, Stanislaw she is survived by her son, Kazimierz, daughter-in-law, Zorika, and granddaughter, Emma. Janina was born on June 28, in Czerwonogrod, Poland. In 1942, she was taken into forced labour in a German munitions factory near Koblenz. Liberated by Allied forces in 1945, she entered a camp for displaced persons and learned the trade of a seamstress. Janina moved to work in northern England where, in 1949, she met and married Stanislaw Borkowski, a former soldier of the Polish 2nd Corps. They settled in Bradford, Yorkshire, where they raised one son. A few years after her husband's death in 1987, Janina came to Canada to live with her son and daughter-in-law, first in London, Ontario, and, since 1993, in Acton. She will be missed by family and friends in Poland, England and Canada. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and Janina's remains will be interred with those of her husband in England. Given the extraordinary circumstances pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, memorial masses will be said at a later date in St. Joseph Patron of Canada church in Acton and in Our Lady of Czestochowa church in Bradford. In lieu of flowers, Janina requested that donations in her memory be made to a charity of your choice or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
