DAVID Sharpe will pull everything together during City’s summer transfer business.

Graham Alexander has outlined the key role that the head of football operations plays in the coming weeks as they look to beef up the squad for next season.

Sharpe took the newly-created post just over a month ago and Alexander insists he will be involved in “everything”.

The City boss said: “Ultimately, I’m in control of the football side as in the type of player and profile, the way we want to play and how they fit in technically and tactically and all those things.

“But David has got a vast network of people he knows. He’s got a good knowledge of players from his experience over the last nine or 10 years, with negotiations and putting us in contact with people.

“We talk about the budget, how it will work for us and what we have to spend; what the limit is for any particular player.

“He’s the one who brings it all together.

“Stephen Gent is obviously the head of recruitment so he has the knowledge of what players we’re looking for. He has seen the players and knows the profile.

“Ryan (Sparks) is obviously in charge of the finances of the club on the football side and David works among us all to bring it all together. It’s been really positive.

“We parked it to the side while the season was on-going but it’s picked up speed in the last couple of weeks with no games to concentrate on.

“I’ve got to know him a lot better and it’s the same with him getting to know me. It’s going great guns but obviously we’ll be judged on the squad we put together.”

Sharpe, like management duo Alexander and Chris Lucketti, has experience of working in different divisions as chairman of Wigan and, most recently, director of football and then chief executive at Mansfield.

“We want to cast the net far and wide in terms of the knowledge we have,” added Alexander.

“We’re not just going into places where we haven’t got a clue and trying to pluck a player. There’s enough experience between us all.

“From myself and Chris’ career and the level we played at, David as well from when he was obviously in charge of Wigan.

“He also had a different role in his latest position at Mansfield.

“He obviously worked with a vastly experienced manager there in Nigel Clough, who has been in the job for 15-20 years. He would have gained a lot of insight and knowledge from him.

“Between us, we’ve had some good discussions. We’re on the same page about what we want the squad to look like, what the budget constraints are and what we can achieve.

“Ultimately, we know we’re all in it to build a successful team.”
